Casa Veinticinco
Penthouse Residence - Urban Home
Located within the neighborhood of La Cabrera, in Bogota, Colombia, lies the apartment Casa Veinticinco. Designed to be intentional with every detail, the materials and finishes express a natural look and are used in the most conscious ways. As one moves through the apartment, it is difficult not to notice that the same material is used in subtle, yet numerous ways. As a studio, we stay true to our ethos and culture of being ethical with our design intervention. This apartment is an evolving experience, with each space connected by gentle transitions. Amidst the city’s bustle and clamor, we’ve managed to bring the tranquility and peacefulness of nature into the urban home.
The kitchen is known to be the center for socialization in Latin countries, so it was imperative that we kept not only its location and structure, but also made the majority of the first level relatively open and welcoming. Socialization remains available throughout this floor, where conversations can easily occur between the kitchen and living room areas.
The unique pattern of the brick breezeway partition allows for privacy and provides clear division of the space without obstructing views. Looking closely, we can see that the material used for the ground changes throughout the spaces. This is a subtle way to indicate a change of room while maintaining overall openness and functional cohesiveness.
With the kitchen being the center for hospitality, we wanted the stairs to provide a transitional space where one finds themselves relaxing and recentering as they head upstairs. This feeling is magnified by the use of warm tones, woods, and soothing lighting.
As a studio that prioritizes material quality in ample spaces, we wanted this project to keep materials at their organic state with consistency throughout the home. The bedroom can best be described as a “harmonic illusion.” Using the same materiality seen throughout Casa Veinticinco, we added a cozy space with a hammock near the floor-to-ceiling balcony windows that overlooks the city. While this connects the bedroom to the outside, it generates a feeling of ease and relaxation.
Adjacent to the master bedroom is the bathroom, which evokes wellness and a connection to nature. The frosted glass windows provide privacy while simultaneously allowing for a surplus of natural light. It was important for the entire dwelling to continue the narrative of bringing the outdoors into Casa Veinticinco.
